During transit, pigs are exposed to various stressors (space restrictions, travel conditions and transit time), which can affect their overall health and well-being. Tonisity Px is currently being used to provide support and hydration during these stressful periods to ensure pigs arrive in the best possible condition.
Use Px before and after transport, especially in weaning pigs, to facilitate a quicker transition to normal feeding behaviors and improve their hydration.
Improves baby pig health and survivability, leading to fewer deaths and removals
Enables producers to get more pigs off to a healthy start
Starting 24-48 hours after birth and for the next 7 days, give 500 mL (1 pint) of liquid Px solution per litter per day in a clean pan or trough. Ensure that piglets have received sufficient colostrum and have access to fresh water. Prepare fresh liquid Px solution and clean the pans or troughs daily.
Give newly weaned pigs 4 liters ( ~ 1 US gallon) of liquid Px solution per 100 pigs for 1-2 days before transport begins.
Give newly weaned pigs 4 liters ( ~ 1 US gallon) of liquid Px solution per 100 pigs on arrival at the nursery or wean / finish site. Repeat again in 1 to 4 hours, for a minimum of 2 doses. Newly weaned pigs traveling for extended periods of time may become more dehydrated and require more liquid Px solution. Newly weaned pigs traveling for more than 6 hours should receive 8 liters ( ~ 2 US gallons) of liquid Px solution per 100 pigs on arrival and again 1 to 4 hours later for a minimum of 2 doses.
Follow this by using Px-gruel in a step-down approach over the next 3-4 days.
For finished pigs destined for slaughter, give 1 liter ( ~ 1 US quart) of liquid Px solution per pig prior to transport.
